Surgical Dental Assistant Eastman Craighead Periodontics - northwest bradenton location Overview Join our dynamic dental team as a Surgical Dental Assistant, where your expertise will directly contribute to delivering exceptional oral healthcare in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. In this vital role, you will support board certified periodontists during complex surgical procedures, ensuring seamless operations and optimal patient outcomes. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help create a comfortable experience for patients undergoing oral surgery, implant placements, and other advanced dental treatments. Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and sterilized equipment in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques. Assist during oral surgery procedures by handing instruments, managing suction devices, and maintaining a clear operative field using four-handed dentistry techniques. Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning, ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards. Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems using Dentrix Ascend, documenting procedure details, vital signs, and medical history while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for clinical confidentiality policies. Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions, ensuring they understand their treatment plans and follow infection control protocols effectively. Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures to uphold the highest standards of infection prevention management. Support the dental team with administrative duties including patient follow-up, patient management software updates and coordinating appointment schedules with the dental receptionist. Qualifications Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with a focus on surgical procedures in a dental clinic setting; experience in pediatric dentistry or oral surgery is highly desirable. Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental terminology, and dental equipment operation. Strong knowledge of medical imaging techniques such as X-ray and 3D scanner technology used in oral health diagnostics. Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix or Dentrix Ascend for efficient patient record management. Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures. Ability to interpret medical terminology accurately and maintain clinical confidentiality at all times. Certification in radiography (dental x-ray) is required; additional certifications in nitrous oxide and IV are advantageous. Excellent communication skills paired with a compassionate approach to patient care; ability to work effectively within a team practicing four-handed dentistry. $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
