A Surgical Assistant assists in operations, under the supervision of surgeons. May, in accordance with state laws, help surgeons to make incisions and close surgical sites, manipulate or remove tissues, implant surgical devices or drains, suction the surgical site, place catheters, clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue, and apply dressings to surgical site.

Job Description
Performs surgical shave preps in accordance with Policy/Procedure. Transports patients in a safe and timely manner. Provides comfort measures for patients; proper contact and introduction. Assist and anticipates needs of team members. Accurate handling of specimens. Maintains a sterile environment. Maintains linen supply for daily use. Disposes of sharps according to P/P Acts as a runner in a timely fashion. Expedites room turnover. Maintains readiness of transport stretchers/patient beds. Stores sterile supplies according to P/P and proper place. Decontaminates and/or returns instruments, supplies, and equipment according to P/P. Performs daily quality controls for sterilizers and reports problems to OR Team Leader. Ensures cases are pulled with needed supplies and equipment for daily, next day, and emergency use. Delivers age-appropriate care. Ability to perform phlebotomy skills. Ability to perform blood glucose monitoring. Ability to perform, 12 lead electrocardiogram.
