Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Certified Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe surgical procedures across a variety of specialties. Your expertise will directly contribute to delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for healthcare excellence, possess strong technical proficiency, and thrive under pressure. Responsibilities Assist surgeons during operative procedures by preparing the sterile field, passing instruments, and managing surgical supplies with precision and aseptic technique. Maintain a thorough understanding of surgical anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, functioning correctly, and ready for use in accordance with infection control protocols. Support patient care before, during, and after surgery by monitoring vital signs, assessing patient status, and assisting with discharge planning when appropriate. Document detailed medical records including operative reports, patient data, and procedural notes within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems accurately and efficiently. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in Level I Trauma Centers and Level II trauma centers to coordinate care for patients with acute injuries or complex medical needs such as pediatric or ICU cases. Demonstrate proficiency in EMR systems like Epic or similar platforms to ensure seamless documentation and communication across departments. Uphold strict infection control standards through proper aseptic techniques and adherence to hospital policies to prevent cross-contamination or infection spread. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by analyzing clinical data related to patient outcomes and procedural efficiency. Skills Proven experience working in hospital environments with exposure to medical-surgical units, ICU settings, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or emergency medicine departments. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and critical care practices essential for supporting complex surgeries. Skilled in suturing techniques and handling various surgical instruments with precision. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or other hospital-specific platforms for accurate record-keeping. Ability to interpret vital signs accurately and respond swiftly during emergencies or critical situations. Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques necessary for maintaining a sterile environment. Excellent analysis skills for assessing patient needs quickly and effectively during high-pressure scenarios. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications like Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are advantageous. Experience working within Level I Trauma Centers or hospitals specializing in emergency medicine is highly preferred. Strong understanding of hospital medicine practices including discharge planning for optimal patient recovery outcomes.
