Full Job Description Description:
The Surgical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the oral surgeon during procedures by ensuring a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience for patients. This position assists with surgical preparation, chairside support, sterilization, and patient care while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and safety.
Essential Responsibilities:
Prepare, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment before, during, and after procedures. Escort patients to the operator in a timely manner and help them feel comfortable throughout treatment. Prepare patients for surgery and assist with monitoring vital signs and anesthesia levels as directed. Review and confirm patient medical histories, making updates as necessary. Ensure patients understand and are educated on the planned treatment. Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by passing instruments, suctioning, and providing needed materials. Accurately document patient information and surgical details in the electronic health record (EHR). Provide post-operative care instructions and ensure appropriate follow-up. Take diagnostic X-rays as needed after reviewing case notes or referrals. Stock and maintain operatories and designated sterilization areas. Assist with daily and monthly maintenance of sterilization equipment, handpieces, suction systems, and imaging equipment. Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
Current certifications and/or licenses as required by state regulations. CPR certification is required. Strong manual dexterity and technical skills for assisting with surgical procedures. Ability to anticipate the needs of both patients and the surgical team. Professional appearance and excellent patient communication skills. Must be insurable under the company's insurance policy.
