Description Under the direct supervision of the Circulating Nurse within the Operating Room, the Surgical Tech completes surgical set-ups according to department standards and physician preference cards. The Surgical Tech is a member of the surgical team providing care to the patient and is responsible for maintaining the sterile field; surgical instrumentation; preparation of supplies and equipment; as well as other related duties. Participates in call, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Comply with department standards inclusive of: attendance, dress code, and varied work schedule. Duties include anticipating physician needs at the sterile field, preparing supplies, instruments and equipment. The Surgical Tech is responsible for implementing aseptic technique, practices related to prevention of retained foreign objects, safe medication labeling and handling, anticipatory skills related to the sequence of the procedure, specimen handling, and adhering to department policies, procedures, and practices. Participate in maintaining a survey-ready environment. Ensure patient safety by following regulatory and hospital standards of care. Utilize and participate in evidence-based research to guide best practice.
