Duties Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for upcoming procedures. Assist surgeons during surgeries by passing instruments, suturing wounds, and managing surgical tools with precision. Ensure all medical equipment is properly sterilized, functioning correctly, and ready for use in accordance with infection control protocols. Monitor patient vital signs and physiological responses throughout procedures to support optimal outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, patient records, and intraoperative data using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms. Follow strict aseptic techniques and infection prevention measures to minimize healthcare-associated infections. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in trauma centers, emergency medicine units, ICU settings, and outpatient surgery centers to deliver comprehensive patient care. Requirements Certification as a Surgical Technologist from an accredited program; current certification required. Proven experience assisting in diverse surgical environments including Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers preferred. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical procedures across specialties such as orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, pediatrics, and endoscopy. Experience with medical equipment operation and sterilization processes essential for maintaining sterile fields. Skilled in suturing techniques, treatment of fractures, trauma care protocols, and orthopedic surgery assistance. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or other hospital information systems for accurate record keeping. Ability to perform data collection and analysis related to patient care processes. Excellent understanding of infection control practices including aseptic technique and healthcare infection prevention strategies. Critical care experience in ICU or acute care settings is highly desirable. Knowledge of hospital medicine workflows and ambulatory surgery center operations preferred. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are a plus.
