Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for maintaining a sterile field, preparing surgical instruments and supplies, and ensuring the operating room is properly equipped for each procedure. This is a dual role position in which the individual fulfills two functions; operating room technician and sterile processing technician. As the OR Technician or "Scrub" Technician, the health team member is specifically involved with the instrumentation and technical aspects of the operative event. As the sterile processing technician, they are responsible for the cleaning, packaging and sterilization of instruments.

Job Skills and Requirement:

Prepares the operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and functioning properly Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout surgical procedures Understanding of principles of surgical positioning Recognition of signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment use, care, and handling Assist physicians during procedures by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment Knowledge of surgical procedures and basics of care to include anesthesia and potential complications Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement principles of aseptic and sterilization techniques

Qualifications:

High school diploma required Surgical Technician diploma required
