Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms for surgery by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, sterile, and functioning properly. Set up and maintain a sterile field, using strict aseptic and infection control techniques throughout procedures. Assist with patient preparation, including positioning, skin prep, and draping under the direction of the surgical team. Anticipate the needs of surgeons and nurses during procedures and efficiently pass instruments, sutures, and supplies. Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with nursing staff before, during, and after surgery to promote patient safety. Handle and label specimens appropriately, following hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Assist with the operation, care, and basic troubleshooting of surgical instruments and equipment during procedures. Participate in the cleaning, decontamination, and preparation of instruments and equipment for sterilization after procedures. Help with rapid and thorough operating room turnover between cases, including cleaning, restocking, and equipment checks. Document required intra-operative information in accordance with hospital policies and support accurate recordkeeping. Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other team members to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical care. Adhere to all hospital safety, infection prevention, and quality standards, actively contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
