Surgical Technologist Primary Purpose:

To support the safe, patient care at the Center by preparing for and participating in all surgical procedures Position responsibilities/Essential functions: Responsible for the maintenance, with the circulating nurse, of the sponge, sharp and instrument counts Has a good current understanding of the surgical instrumentation, equipment and techniques Shows case preparedness Is able to establish and maintain a sterile field, utilize a sterile conscience and take corrective action for breaks in technique Participates in surgical positioning, procedure, and documentation under the direction of the surgeon and the circulating nurse Prepares instruments, equipment, implants, sutures and surgical supplies according to the anticipated needs of the procedure Appropriately breaks down table/sterile field, delivers inclusive instrument trays to CS, and discards contaminated sharps and trash per surgical center practice Prepares specimens as directed by surgeon Makes a conscious effort to meet the special needs of each surgeon Function as a preceptor and/or resource Demonstrates skills and techniques needed to proficiently perform multi-specialty surgical procedures. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the surgical assistant's role, limitations, legalities, ethical concerns, and interpersonal skills necessary for safe and efficient surgical progression.
