Job Summary:
The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing direct support in the operating room by preparing equipment, instruments, and supplies; maintaining sterile technique; and assisting the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout surgical procedures.
Required Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of scrub experience in an operating room setting Experience with cosmetic and reconstructive procedures preferred Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive manual tasks Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, radiation, and other clinical hazards. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress surgical environment with variable hours Role requires access to electronic and paper medical records and related patient informationin accordance withHIPAA and organizational policy
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Clinical Support Scrub for ambulatory surgical proceduresin accordance withapproved clinical protocols Prepare, assemble, and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies based on procedure and surgeon preference cards Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and operating room standards Inspect, test, and ensure functionality of instruments and equipment prior to use Anticipate procedural needs andmaintaincontinuous availability of instruments and supplies during surgery Perform surgical counts in coordination with the circulating nurse Identifyand report breaks in sterile technique and takeappropriate correctiveaction Assistwith turnover, restocking, and preparation for upcoming procedures Review surgical schedules and prepare supplies in advance Equipment & Instrument Management Properly handle, clean, sterilize, and store surgical instruments and equipment Maintain and update instrument trays and surgeon preference cards Ensure the operating room is fullyalways stocked and ready for procedures Safety, Compliance & Quality Comply withpatient safety, infection control, and organizational policies Identifyunsafe conditions or practices and report concerns throughappropriate channels Support performance improvement and quality initiatives as assigned Communication & Professional Conduct Communicate clearly and professionally with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff Follow verbal and written instructions accurately Maintain respectful workplace behavior and professional standards in the operating room Financial Stewardship Use supplies and facility resources responsibly Recommend cost-effective improvements when appropriate Professional Development Participate in continuing education and competency development Share relevant knowledge with team members Assistwith orientation and training ofnew staffas needed
Education/Credentials Requirement:
High school diploma or GEDrequired Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technology program (trade school or associate degree)required Current national certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required (credential must be active) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Associationrequired New York State Infection Control Training New York State Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training
