Jason Banning) About Us At Ad Astra Urgent Care Veterinary Clinic, we provide compassionate, accessible, high-quality urgent care and overnight monitoring for pets in Lawrence, KS, during the hours when primary care clinics are closed. Our team works closely with referring veterinarians to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care. We pride ourselves on a supportive, collaborative environment where every team member contributes to excellent patient outcomes and client experiences. Position Overview Ad Astra Urgent Care Veterinary Clinic is seeking a dedicated, compassionate Full-Time Veterinarian to join our growing urgent care team. Our clinic focuses exclusively on non-life-threatening urgent care cases, providing local accessible evening care for pets with issues such as vomiting/diarrhea, skin and ear infections, minor wounds, lacerations, limping, mild respiratory signs, and other same-day concerns. Job Responsibilities Clinical Care
  • Provide high-quality urgent care for dogs and cats presenting with non-critical conditions.
  • Perform diagnostics including radiography, cytology, point-of-care ultrasound, and laboratory interpretation.
  • Develop and communicate treatment plans clearly to clients and staff.
  • Perform minor procedures such as laceration repairs, abscess management, sedation for wound care, and other non-emergency interventions.
  • Maintain a calm, solutions-focused approach in a walk-in urgent care environment. Medical Documentation
  • Produce clear, concise, and thorough medical records for every patient.
  • Ensure documentation supports seamless transfer of care back to the patient's primary veterinarian the following morning.
  • Communicate case summaries and recommendations in a professional, collaborative manner. Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with veterinary technicians, assistants, and the clinic manager to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Provide guidance and support to medical support staff during treatments and procedures.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and communicative team culture. After-Hours Expectations
  • Remain reachable by phone after the end of the shift (1am) for the overnight technician if veterinary oversight is needed.
  • Provide remote guidance for stable hospitalized patients.
  • No physical return to the clinic is required.
  • Any patient that becomes critical or requires direct veterinary management will be transferred to a 24-hour emergency hospital. Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active Kansas veterinary license (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and team members.
  • Confidence in managing common urgent care presentations.
  • Ability to work independently with support staff.
