Westwood Regional Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Per Diem Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian to provide flexible clinical coverage at our Westwood, New Jersey location . We are looking for a veterinarian who is comfortable independently evaluating, diagnosing, stabilizing, and treating emergency and urgent-care patients. This position requires a doctor who can manage cases from initial presentation through diagnostics, treatment planning, hospitalization, discharge, or referral when appropriate.
Compensation:
$175-$215 per hour , based on experience, clinical capabilities, and scope of practice. Responsibilities The Per Diem Emergency Veterinarian will provide high-quality medical care while working collaboratively with our veterinary technicians, assistants, client-service team, and hospital leadership.
Responsibilities include:
Evaluate and treat emergency and urgent-care patients Perform comprehensive physical examinations and triage Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans Order and interpret bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, and other laboratory testing Interpret digital radiographs and other available diagnostic imaging Stabilize critically ill or injured patients Establish IV access and fluid-therapy plans Provide pain management and emergency medication protocols Manage wounds, lacerations, abscesses, and traumatic injuries Perform appropriate emergency and urgent-care procedures Perform soft-tissue surgical procedures when medically indicated and within the veterinarian's experience Manage hospitalized patients and provide ongoing assessment Communicate diagnoses, treatment recommendations, prognosis, and costs clearly with pet owners Maintain complete and timely medical records Coordinate referrals or transfers when specialty or higher-level emergency care is appropriate Work effectively with veterinary technicians and support staff in a fast-paced clinical environment Clinical Skills Candidates should be comfortable utilizing standard veterinary emergency and urgent-care modalities, including diagnostic laboratory testing, radiography, fluid therapy, medication management, stabilization, wound management, minor and soft-tissue surgical procedures, and development of comprehensive treatment plans. Experience managing acute gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary, neurologic, traumatic, toxicologic, and other urgent presentations is highly desirable. Qualifications DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary program Current New Jersey veterinary license or eligibility for NJ licensure Ability to practice independently and make timely clinical decisions Strong diagnostic and case-management skills Emergency, urgent-care, or high-volume general-practice experience strongly preferred Comfortable performing soft-tissue surgical procedures Strong client-communication and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate effectively with technicians and hospital support staff Schedule This is a per diem position based exclusively at our Westwood location . Scheduling will be based on hospital coverage needs and veterinarian availability. We are interested in developing relationships with dependable veterinarians who may be available for weekday, evening, weekend, and/or additional coverage shifts. There is no requirement to maintain a traditional full-time schedule. Compensation $175.00-$215.00 per hour Final hourly rate will be determined based on experience, emergency-care capabilities, surgical skills, diagnostic proficiency, and overall clinical experience.
