The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is responsible for instructing students, participating in the selection and organization of curriculum, veterinary protocol, equipment, and supplies. The DVM will also advise students and shelter facilities about key general care practices, medical conditions, and treatments along with proper medications, dosages, and protocols. Finally, student instruction will also include a focus on document preparation and management of medical records as part of the animal care process. The DVM will also demonstrate and supervise examinations on a variety of animals to diagnose their health needs and to ensure their long-term health. These activities could include treating animals for medical conditions, treating and dressing wounds, performing surgery on animals, testing for and vaccinating against diseases, and as part of this process, utilizing all applicable medical equipment. Finally, the DVM will assist with creating and implementing programmatic accreditation policies and procedures, including the Essential and Recommended Skills List. The DVM will assist with the acquisition of members and yearly meetings of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) committee.

Requirements:

1) DVM must have a minimum of five years of related practical work experience as a licensed and practicing Veterinarian in the state where the Veterinary Technician program is located. 2) Current, valid license in good standing as a Veterinarian in the state where the Veterinary Technician program is located. 3) Faculty members for the Veterinary program must be a current registered and licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and have graduated from an AVMA accredited program. These individuals must meet the continuing education requirements as set by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board (OVMLB). 4) All incumbents must have the ability to express ideas in a clear, concise and motivating manner and employ effective questioning techniques to encourage students to pursue their own answers. They must have the ability and organizational skills necessary to maintain an accurate tracking system and be able to establish a disciplined learning environment.
