Temporary / Contract Opportunity Seven Healthcare is seeking an experienced K9 Veterinarian to provide comprehensive veterinary care to working dogs in Winchester, Virginia. This role is suited to a qualified veterinarian with experience in general veterinary practice who is interested in supporting the health, fitness and operational readiness of working canines. The successful candidate will provide preventative, diagnostic and emergency veterinary care, perform surgical procedures, support canine handlers and trainers, and help ensure working dogs remain fit for duty.

Key Responsibilities Examine working dogs to diagnose and treat a range of illnesses, injuries and medical conditions. Provide appropriate veterinary treatment, including routine, preventative, elective and emergency care. Perform routine and emergency surgical procedures in line with working-dog veterinary practice. Develop and implement preventative healthcare strategies to maintain canine fitness and minimise avoidable downtime. Perform and interpret diagnostic imaging, including digital radiography and ultrasound. Provide veterinary advice and training to veterinary personnel, canine handlers, trainers and other relevant stakeholders. Deliver guidance on injury prevention, triage, canine health and zoonotic diseases. Maintain accurate electronic veterinary medical records using a cloud-based working-dog medical records system. Generate veterinary reports and maintain relevant clinical and operational data. Provide veterinary expertise and conduct inspections of facilities used to house working dog populations. Work collaboratively with veterinary teams supporting canine operations, including those operating in remote locations. Communicate effectively with handlers, trainers and other professionals involved in working-dog care and welfare. Requirements Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent veterinary degree from an institution accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Current veterinary licence in at least one U.S. state. Ability to obtain a Virginia veterinary licence within 90 days of starting employment. USDA Accredited Veterinarian status, minimum Category I, with the ability to issue international health certificates for dogs travelling from the United States. Minimum of 2 years' experience practising as a veterinarian . U.S. citizenship. Valid U.S. passport. Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum SECRET security clearance . Strong clinical judgement and the ability to work independently. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary veterinary and working-dog team. Excellent communication and consultation skills. Ability to provide veterinary support and collaborate with teams operating in remote environments. Preferred Experience Previous experience working with explosive detection dogs (EDD) . Experience in working-dog, military, law enforcement, security or other canine-focused veterinary environments.
