Job Description

Industry Standard USA is a veteran-owned construction company based in Syracuse, NY, delivering high-quality construction services across New York State. With a rapidly expanding fleet of Western Star tri-axle dump trucks and heavy excavation equipment, we are looking for a skilled, hands-on Diesel Mechanic / Shop Manager to keep our operations running at full strength. This is not a sit-behind-a-desk role—you'll be actively working in the shop, solving problems, and keeping our fleet moving. Position Overview As a Diesel Mechanic / Shop Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing our fleet while managing shop workflow and minimizing downtime. You'll play a critical role in ensuring our trucks and equipment are always job-ready—and step into the field when needed. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repairs on Western Star tri-axle dump trucks and heavy construction equipment Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues Conduct inspections to ensure safety and operational compliance Manage shop workflow, prioritize repairs, and reduce downtime Maintain accurate service and repair records Order and manage parts and inventory Collaborate with operators and management on scheduling repairs Perform light shop/office maintenance as needed Step in to drive dump trucks or operate equipment when necessary Schedule Primarily weekends, with some weekday work Our trucks run continuously during the week—this role ensures they stay operational Qualifications Proven experience as a diesel mechanic (heavy trucks and equipment preferred) Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems Ability to diagnose issues and work independently Experience with Western Star trucks is a plus Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Valid CDL A required Reliable, professional, and committed to safety What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Retirement plan 5 days paid vacation 56 hours of sick time (accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked) 8 paid holidays Opportunities for growth and advancement Ongoing training and professional development A strong, team-oriented environment within a veteran-owned company How to Apply If you're ready to bring your skills to a fast-growing company that values hard work and reliability, we'd love to hear from you.
