OF RESPONSIBILITY

Performs a variety of skilled tasks in all phases of construction and maintenance activity, including the operation of specialized light construction and maintenance equipment; does related work as directed by Foreman. Performs a variety of skilled tasks incidental to the maintenance and use of town streets, parks, and recreational areas. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Driver's License
• Driving record in good standing

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must live within 30 minutes of Highway Department - 24 Furnace Brook Rd, Cornwall Bridge 06754 ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS, AS DIRECTED BY THE HIGHWAY FOREMAN

• Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs on light maintenance and construction equipment such as curb machines, rollers, power saws, mowing machines, street sweepers, compressors, power tampers, sand spreaders, pumps, vehicles up to and over 35,000 lbs. G.V.W.
• Builds catch basins, end walls and retaining walls.
• Drives trucks on assigned routes during winter snow plowing and sanding.
• Drives trucks in transporting maintenance and construction materials.
• Erects highway signs.
• Does tree removal on roads and public areas.
• May perform simple clerical work.
• May assist in recreational activities.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties by cleaning, maintaining stock piles of materials and other tasks associated with the general care of a work area.
• May act as helper in highway building, parks and public ground maintenance or construction.
• Cleans gutters, digs ditches and shovels various materials.
• Spreads patch.
• Does grading and raking.
• May operate various pieces of equipment.
• Performs miscellaneous tasks in construction and maintenance activity.
• May help Head Mechanic or Mechanic if so assigned.
• Does related work as required in a safe manner compliant with Town and OSHA requirements.
• Participates in job training courses.
• No drugs or alcohol in workplace. Participate in required random drug testing.
• Assists in servicing machinery and other light highway equipment, lubricates, and makes necessary adjustments.
• Complies with the Personnel Policy and Union Contract

• Ability to learn, understand, and carry out written and oral assignments.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
• Ability to use equipment requiring manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work with the general public in a professional, polite manner.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must be proficient at operating a manual transmission.
