Job Description

Job Summary The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a vital leadership role in overseeing the bakery maintenance, operation, and management of the facility's refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position is responsible for ensuring all engineering functions comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. The Assistant Chief Engineer leads facilities maintenance teams, manages complex systems such as HVAC and electrical networks, and implements preventative maintenance procedures to optimize operational efficiency. A proactive approach to troubleshooting and a strong understanding of engineering principles are essential to maintain a safe, reliable, and efficient environment. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate facilities maintenance teams to ensure timely repair and upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Oversee the implementation of maintenance repair procedures in accordance with safety regulations such as OSHA standards. Manage facilities management software (CMMS) to schedule inspections, track work orders, and document maintenance activities. Conduct engineering troubleshooting for complex issues involving electrical systems (including high voltage and low voltage), mechanical systems, HVAC units, and plumbing infrastructure. Review schematics and technical manuals to diagnose problems accurately and develop effective repair strategies. Lead project management efforts for system upgrades or new installations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and budget constraints. Maintain compliance with OSHA safety regulations by conducting regular safety audits and training sessions for staff. Utilize tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters to perform electrical testing and system diagnostics. Develop preventive maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan and reduce downtime. Ensure all work aligns with safety regulations while managing facilities maintenance teams efficiently to meet operational goals. Experience Proven management experience supervising facilities maintenance or engineering teams within industrial or large commercial environments. Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems repair including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical wiring (high voltage/low voltage), and industrial maintenance procedures. Hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), schematics interpretation, and engineering troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and best practices for industrial maintenance environments. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite for reporting, documentation, and communication purposes. Experience managing facilities management software (CMMS) for work order tracking and asset management. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams while maintaining high safety standards. Demonstrated project management capabilities from planning through execution of large-scale maintenance or upgrade projects. $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
