Job Overview The Baker is responsible for preparing a variety of breads, doughs, and other baked items according to Saba's recipes and quality standards. This position supports daily baking and culinary production, including preparing and baking Saba's signature pita bread in our wood-fired oven. The ideal candidate enjoys working with dough, takes pride in consistency and craftsmanship, and can remain organized in a fast-paced kitchen. Previous professional baking experience is preferred, but we are willing to train candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an interest in developing their baking skills. Key Responsibilities Prepare breads, doughs, and other baked items according to established recipes and production standards. Mix, portion, shape, proof, and bake dough while maintaining consistency in quality, size, texture, and appearance. Assist with the preparation and baking of Saba's signature pita bread. Safely operate and maintain standard baking equipment, including mixers, conventional ovens, and Saba's wood-fired oven. Follow daily production schedules and ensure baked items are ready for service on time. Monitor dough development, fermentation, proofing, baking times, and oven temperatures. Measure and prepare ingredients accurately using established recipes and procedures. Set up and stock the baking station with the necessary ingredients, tools, and supplies. Monitor ingredient levels and communicate production or inventory needs to culinary leadership. Properly label, date, store, and rotate ingredients and finished products. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary baking area. Clean and care for ovens, mixers, baking tools, work surfaces, and other equipment. Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety requirements. Minimize waste through proper preparation, portioning, handling, and storage. Assist the culinary team with additional preparation and production responsibilities as needed. Complete opening, closing, and restocking duties as assigned. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience in baking, bread production, pastry preparation, pizza making, or a high-volume kitchen is preferred. Experience working with yeast dough, fermentation, or wood-fired ovens is a plus but not required. Basic knowledge of baking techniques, measurements, ingredients, and equipment. Ability to follow recipes and production standards accurately. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality products. Ability to remain organized and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Dependable, punctual, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods, often for the entire shift. Ability to work safely around hot ovens and baking equipment. Ability to lift and carry ingredients, mixing bowls, trays, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, twist, and stoop while performing kitchen tasks. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as mixing, portioning, rolling, and shaping dough. Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity.
