Head Baker / Kitchen Manager Job Summary Rita's Catering is seeking a dependable, organized, and hardworking Baking Assistant to support the preparation and production of baked goods, desserts, and other menu items for catering orders and events. The Baking Assistant will work closely with the Head Baker and kitchen team to ensure products are prepared accurately, safely, on time, and according to Rita's Catering quality standards. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, pays close attention to detail, works efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen, and is willing to learn and follow recipes, food-safety procedures, and production schedules. Key Responsibilities Assist with preparing cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, breads, desserts, and other baked items according to established recipes. Accurately measure, weigh, mix, portion, and prepare ingredients. Prepare baking pans, trays, molds, and other equipment before production. Assist with decorating, filling, frosting, glazing, cutting, portioning, and packaging baked goods. Monitor baking times and temperatures under the direction of the Head Baker or Kitchen Manager. Help prepare ingredients and products for upcoming catering orders and events. Label, date, store, and rotate ingredients and finished products properly. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary baking and preparation area. Wash and sanitize mixing bowls, utensils, baking trays, equipment, counters, and workstations. Follow all food-safety, sanitation, allergen-handling, and personal-hygiene requirements. Monitor ingredient supplies and notify the supervisor when items are running low. Assist with receiving, organizing, and properly storing bakery ingredients and supplies. Carefully follow customer order specifications, including quantities, flavors, sizes, decorations, and packaging requirements. Help ensure catering orders are completed correctly and ready by required pickup or delivery times. Work cooperatively with bakers, cooks, catering staff, and other kitchen employees. Perform other reasonable kitchen and catering duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous bakery, restaurant, catering, or commercial kitchen experience is preferred but not required. Basic understanding of baking techniques and kitchen equipment is helpful. Ability to follow recipes, measurements, written instructions, and production schedules accurately. Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent product quality. Good communication and teamwork skills. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently when required. Ability to work efficiently while handling multiple tasks in a busy kitchen environment. Willingness to learn new baking, decorating, preparation, and food-safety techniques. Physical Requirements The Baking Assistant must be able to: Stand and work for extended periods. Bend, reach, lift, carry, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks. Safely lift and carry ingredients, trays, equipment, and supplies as required for the position. Work around ovens, mixers, refrigerators, freezers, and other commercial kitchen equipment. Work in environments where temperatures may vary because of ovens, refrigeration, and food-production activities. Work Schedule Hours may vary depending on catering orders, production requirements, and scheduled events. The Baking Assistant may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on business needs.
