POSITION SUMMARY
The Cafenista is responsible for creating a welcoming, efficient, and memorable experience for guests at Sketchpad Café. This position combines the responsibilities of a barista, cashier, food service attendant, and guest service professional. Cafenistas prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, and other menu items; accurately process guest transactions; maintain product presentation and cleanliness; restock supplies; and assist with the overall operation of the café. The ideal Cafenista is friendly, dependable, attentive to detail, and comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment. As a member of the Great Maple team, the Cafenista is expected to demonstrate genuine hospitality and contribute to a positive experience for hotel guests, visitors, and fellow team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Guest Service Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, attentive, and professional service. Assist guests with menu selections and answer questions regarding beverages, food items, ingredients, and available offerings. Create a welcoming café environment through positive and professional interactions. Anticipate guest needs and respond appropriately to questions or concerns. Communicate guest concerns or service issues to a manager when additional assistance is needed. Maintain Great Maple hospitality and service standards throughout each shift. Beverage & Food Preparation Prepare coffee, espresso-based beverages, teas, specialty drinks, and other beverages according to established recipes and presentation standards. Prepare, package, heat, or serve food items according to established procedures. Follow appropriate portioning, recipe, quality, and presentation standards. Maintain familiarity with café menu offerings, ingredients, and common allergen information. Follow established procedures regarding food allergies and immediately involve management when appropriate. Ensure products are fresh, properly presented, and available for guest service. Cashier & Point-of-Sale Responsibilities Accurately enter orders into the point-of-sale system. Process cash, credit card, room charge, and other approved forms of payment according to company procedures. Provide accurate change and receipts when applicable. Maintain responsibility for assigned cash drawer or register activity. Immediately report transaction discrepancies, payment concerns, or equipment issues to management. Follow all company cash-handling and loss-prevention procedures. Café Operations Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked service areas throughout the shift. Restock cups, lids, condiments, food products, beverages, utensils, and other supplies as needed. Monitor product levels and communicate low inventory or operational needs to management. Assist with opening, closing, and shift-change responsibilities. Receive, organize, rotate, and store products following proper procedures. Follow FIFO and other established inventory and food-storage practices. Assist fellow team members during periods of high guest volume. Maintain an organized and guest-ready café at all times. Cleanliness & Food Safety Maintain clean and sanitary counters, equipment, refrigerators, beverage stations, food displays, guest areas, and workspaces. Clean and sanitize equipment and food-contact surfaces according to established procedures. Wash dishes, utensils, smallwares, and café equipment as required. Properly dispose of trash and maintain designated waste areas. Follow all food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and handwashing requirements. Follow company policies and all applicable health and safety regulations. Immediately report spills, unsafe conditions, injuries, equipment problems, or other workplace hazards to management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous coffee shop, restaurant, quick-service, retail, cashier, or hospitality experience preferred but not required. Barista or espresso beverage experience preferred. Strong guest-service and communication skills. Ability to accurately handle cash and electronic transactions. Ability to learn recipes, menu offerings, operating procedures, and point-of-sale systems. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Dependable, punctual, and able to work cooperatively as part of a team. Ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with guests and coworkers. Must be able to obtain and maintain any food-handler certification required by applicable law or company policy.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
The Cafenista position requires scheduling flexibility based on business and operational needs. Team members may be scheduled for mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods. Scheduled hours and shifts may vary depending on business levels and are not guaranteed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee may be required to: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Frequently bend, reach, twist, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements. Safely operate coffee, beverage, food-service, and point-of-sale equipment. Lift, carry, push, or move products, supplies, and equipment weighing up to approximately 30 pounds independently and heavier items with appropriate assistance. Work around hot liquids, heated equipment, refrigerated areas, cleaning products, and other conditions commonly found in a food and beverage operation. Communicate effectively with guests and coworkers in an active hospitality environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates within a high-volume café and hospitality environment. The Cafenista may regularly work around guests, food and beverage equipment, hot surfaces and liquids, refrigeration equipment, cleaning products, and varying noise levels.
