Job Description
Full-Time Barista Park James Hotel | Menlo Park, California Position Overview Park James Hotel is seeking an experienced and passionate Full-Time Barista to join our Food & Beverage team. We are looking for someone who genuinely loves coffee, understands the craft behind exceptional coffee preparation, and takes pride in creating memorable guest experiences. The ideal candidate brings previous barista experience, strong technical coffee knowledge, an engaging personality, and a passion for delivering warm, personalized hospitality. At Park James, coffee service is more than preparing a beverage—it is an important part of our guests' morning experience. We are looking for a Barista who understands that exceptional service comes from attention to detail, consistency, genuine engagement, and anticipating what our guests need before they have to ask. This position requires open availability, including weekends and holidays. The scheduled shift begins at 6:00 AM, and candidates must be able to consistently report to work on time for this early-morning schedule. Key Responsibilities Prepare and serve high-quality espresso beverages, coffee, tea, and specialty drinks according to established recipes and standards. Demonstrate strong knowledge of espresso preparation, extraction, milk steaming, beverage construction, and coffee fundamentals. Consistently produce beverages with attention to taste, temperature, presentation, and quality. Create a welcoming and personalized experience for hotel guests and local customers. Learn guest preferences and use name recognition whenever possible to create a more personal experience. Provide knowledgeable recommendations and confidently discuss coffee offerings, preparation methods, and menu selections. Maintain an organized, clean, and visually appealing coffee bar throughout the shift. Properly clean and maintain espresso machines, grinders, brewing equipment, and service areas. Complete opening and closing responsibilities accurately and efficiently. Maintain appropriate product levels and communicate inventory or ordering needs to management. Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and health-department requirements. Process guest transactions accurately through the POS system. Work collaboratively with the Food & Beverage, Front Office, Housekeeping, and other hotel teams to create a seamless guest experience. Assist with additional Food & Beverage responsibilities as operational needs require. Qualifications Previous professional barista experience strongly preferred. Genuine passion for coffee, espresso, and the craft of coffee service. Strong understanding of espresso preparation and milk steaming. Luxury hotel, specialty coffee shop, or upscale restaurant experience is highly desirable. Warm, polished, and engaging communication style. Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency. Ability to recognize guest cues and anticipate needs. Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working independently. Ability to remain composed and hospitable during busy service periods. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Must have open availability, including weekends and holidays. Must be available for a 6:00 AM shift start and have reliable transportation to ensure consistent and punctual attendance. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical responsibilities associated with the position. What We Are Looking For We are particularly interested in someone who views being a Barista as a craft and a profession. The right candidate takes pride in dialing in espresso, creating beautifully prepared beverages, maintaining an immaculate workspace, remembering a returning guest's favorite drink, and creating genuine connections with the people they serve. Technical skills are important, but equally important is the ability to deliver the level of thoughtful, anticipatory hospitality expected at Park James Hotel. Our Service Philosophy At Park James, we believe luxury hospitality is personal. Every interaction is an opportunity to create a connection, and every detail contributes to the guest experience. Our Barista is often one of the first team members our guests interact with in the morning. We want that interaction—and the coffee—to set the tone for an exceptional day.
