Job Description

KNOTS COFFEE ROASTERS.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for providing customers with prompt, quality beverage selection, purchase, and preparation by managing the Barista team, performing regular Bartender tasks themselves, and cooperating with the rest of the front of house team and back of house. The barista ensures guests will experience a friendly, upbeat, and clean atmosphere.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Cooperate and communicate strongly with Managers, including the Front-of-House Manager and the Kitchen Manager, to maintain an effective atmosphere and efficient food and beverage service. Display superior oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues at all levels of seniority. Set an example by showing leadership, addressing questions and concerns, and assisting. Responsible for managing the team, and the following are performed by everyone; On time to work/dressed clean and professionally/ have updated information about drinks and service/ aware of what they need to prep and tasks during service / following house recipes / new employee training; including preparing materials and making sure they're ready to prepare drinks and use POS/knowledge of current food & drink choices, brands, specialties, origin, taste, quality, and prep methods/ ensure service style and standards are met. Guest expectations exceeded/ maintain a clean, organized bar and arrange glassware to create an attractive display/ require evidence of age of any guest who appears to be under the age of thirty (30)/ etc. Ensure prep and opening duties are correctly done and on time. Cut fruit and garnishes to maintain necessary par levels / Replace and rotate draft beer kegs and soda/ Maintain par stock levels of wine, champagne, beer, liquor, non-alcoholic, and perishables/Fill juices and batched cocktails / Restock from liquor storage / Prepare specialty prep/ etc. Ensure closing duties are correctly done and efficiently. Fridges are fully restocked / supplies are stocked and ready for the next shift/storage areas are clean, re-stocked, and well organized/wash and polish all glassware and supplies/ empty and replace dish bins and trash cans throwing out each shift/ etc. Ensure that all prep for all menus are at appropriate stock levels, and able to communicate with proper staff to make sure we can replenish (food and drinks). Be aware of who to call for equipment maintenance and repair, and keep the manager well informed. Must also perform all Barista tasks as needed. Responsible for stock levels, organization and proper storage of items. Beverage tools, product, coffee, liquor, supplies, freezer is stocked with proper levels of ice Responsible for managing and counting inventory in storage, both in the FOH and BOH Communicate well in advance with the Front of House Manager of items running low and needs to be replenished/ etc. Work with the Front of House Manager to place orders of items running low. Demonstrate strong guest service skills and enthusiasm. Welcome each guest personally, make sure all guests at the bar and restaurant are comfortable and feeling welcomed / Communicate using clear and enthusiastic words, tone and body language / Take drink and food orders /Handle payment / Require evidence of age of any guest who appears to be under the age of thirty (30)/ Responsible service of alcohol/ Consult with the FOH Manager for intervention if necessary/ Promptly and professionally handle guest issues and immediately communicate problems and concerns to FOH & management/ etc. Maintain personal health and sanitation standards based on health regulations. Follow all company/bar safety rules, policies, and procedures.

BARISTA JOB FUNCTIONS

Welcome each guest personally, including the hotel guests, and offer services and assistance. Ensure that every guest is served in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. Prepare and serve beverages such as, but not limited to beer, wine, and basic cocktails. Prepare and present quality beverages using various equipment and utensils according to established recipes and presentation standards in the café. Describe details of menu items and new products to guests, suggest products that might appeal to them, and answer any inquiries. Receive and process guest payments. Serve prepared foods, such as muffins, biscotti, and bagels. Stock guest service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items. Selling of gift shop retail products. Order, receive, and stock supplies and retail products. Responsible for product quality and safet,y including but not limited to milk, pastr,y and fruits. Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and heating equipment to ensure proper functioning. Clean and sanitize work areas, service and seating areas, utensils, and equipment. Maintain personal health and sanitation standards based on health regulations. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation. To follow all company/bar safety rules, policies, and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSE/QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience as a barista is preferable, but not required. High school diploma. Hawaii food handlers card is required. Hawaii Blue Card from the Liquor Commission. Valid and Cleared TB Test. Basic Math Skills - add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

SKILLS/APTITUDES

Excellent communication skills (verbally interacts with management, team members, and guests.) Ability to accept constructive criticism and work calmly and effectively under pressure. Judgment and Decision Making Organizational skills. Multi-task oriented. Self-Motivated.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to speak and hear, vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Constant standing with some walking. Be able to work in a standing position for long periods (up to 10 hours). Be able to reach, bend, and stoop Frequently lift up to 35 pounds. Regularly required to use hands and frequently wash hands.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights, and/or holidays. Exposure to various heat levels (outdoor cafe) The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Members-only community (More of a one-on-one relationship with customers) The employee may be exposed to the risks associated with attempting to resolve issues with demanding guests.
