barista job involves preparing and serving coffee, tea, and other beverages, handling customer orders and payments, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked work area, focusing on creating a positive customer experience through friendly service, product knowledge, and efficient operation of espresso machines and other equipment. Key duties include greeting customers, taking orders, preparing drinks following recipes, operating POS systems, cleaning, restocking, and sometimes basic food prep like sandwiches.
Core Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
Greet customers, answer questions about menu items, take orders, and process payments (cash/card).
Beverage Preparation:
Brew coffee and tea, operate espresso machines and grinders, create specialty drinks, and learn recipes.
Food Preparation:
Prepare and serve baked goods, sandwiches, or other light food items.
Workstation Maintenance:
Keep the coffee bar, seating areas, and equipment clean, sanitized, and stocked.
Inventory & Stocking:
Monitor supplies, restock beans, cups, and other materials as needed.
Sales & Education:
Sell coffee blends, brewing equipment, and educate customers on different products and methods.
Key Skills & Qualities:
Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of coffee/beverage preparation and food safety. Friendly, positive, and polite attitude.
Typical Work Environment:
Coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels, and hospitality venues.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
