Barista - About Us The Pantry is an upscale fast casual cafe that offers accommodations for all food allergies, intolerances, and preferences. We offer a gourmet coffee service with monthly coffee specials. In addition we sell beer and wine for onsite and offsite consumption. We have a very eclectic boutique store that entertains guests while they wait for the food. We sell locally sourced merchandise, housewares, and gifts designed for hosting. We are passionate about high-quality ingredients, exceptional service, and fostering a welcoming community hub. We offer a diverse selection of artisanal products, freshly prepared foods, and a top-tier coffee program. Job Summary We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and customer-focused Barista to join our team. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to crafting exceptional coffee and beverage experiences, while also contributing to the overall positive atmosphere of The Pantry and assisting your fellow team members. You will be an ambassador for our brand, ensuring every customer leaves with a smile and a perfectly prepared drink, food prepared exactly how they want it, served hot or cold as indicated, and that our work environment is medical grade clean. This position also includes greeting guests, taking food orders and ensuring allergy compliance, running food, checking on tables, bussing tables, and overall focusing on the guests' experience. This position is also responsible for maintaining inventory on the floor and notifying management and owners when re-orders are needed.
Responsibilities Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and serve a wide range of coffee and espresso-based drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, affogados, etc.) with precision and consistency, adhering to established recipes and quality standards. Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, the coffee equipment, soft ice cream machines, pastry case, and soups. Create and serve specialty beverages, teas, smoothies, and other menu items as required. Demonstrate strong latte art skills and a commitment to presentation. Maintain a clean and orderly counter service and work area.
Customer Service:
Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, and process transactions efficiently using our POS system. Indicate allergies, suggest appropriate substitutions, craft dishes to fit the guests' needs. Provide excellent customer service, anticipating needs and exceeding expectations. Answer customer questions about our coffee, menu items, and products. Handle customer feedback and resolve issues professionally and promptly. Maintain a clean and organized counter and seating area.
Product Knowledge:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of our coffee beans, roasts, and brewing methods. Stay informed about new products, specials, and promotions within the Pantry. Educate customers on our offerings and make informed recommendations.
Operational Excellence:
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards for all equipment and the entire beverage station. Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies; communicate needs to management. Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and daily reconciliation. Adhere to all health and safety regulations. Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations across the bodega.
Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Barista in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a specialty coffee shop or gourmet setting. Proven experience with professional espresso machines and grinders. At least one year of hospitality experience. A willingness to learn and focus on the guests' happiness. A true passion and care for our guests and their experiences.
Skills:
Exceptional knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and brewing methods. Strong latte art skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain a positive attitude. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Basic math skills and experience with POS systems. Hospitality. Service minded attitude.
Personal Attributes:
Passion for coffee, food, and anticipating/meeting guests' needs. Reliable, punctual, and responsible. Team player with a willingness to learn and adapt. A friendly can do attitude. A strong work ethic and a no job is too small, big, or outside my job description. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds. Availability to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays.
