Job Description

Schoolhouse Brewing is looking for someone who wants to work on both sides of the brewery. Some shifts you'll be behind the bar serving customers and talking about beer. Other shifts you'll be in the brewery cleaning kegs, transferring beer, packaging, sanitizing tanks, and helping keep production moving. This is a hands-on job. You'll deal with customers, beer, stainless steel, hoses, chemicals, wet floors, heavy kegs, and a lot of cleaning. If that still sounds fun, keep reading. Bartending Responsibilities Pour great beer and provide friendly, knowledgeable service Learn our beers, including ingredients, styles, brewing process, and the stories behind them Help customers find beers they'll actually enjoy Handle POS transactions accurately Maintain the bar, taproom, floor, patio, and bathrooms Change kegs and handle basic bar and draft-system maintenance Practice responsible alcohol service Help keep the taproom clean, organized, and ready for customers Create an experience instead of simply taking an order Represent Schoolhouse Brewing well with customers and the local community Cellar & Production Responsibilities You'll work with our brewing team on day-to-day cellar, packaging, cleaning, and sanitation work, including: Clean and sanitize returned and empty beer kegs using brewery keg-cleaning equipment Inspect kegs and identify damaged or problem kegs Keep clean, dirty, and damaged keg inventory properly separated and organized Package finished beer into kegs and cans Transfer beer between fermenters, brite tanks, and packaging equipment Clean and sanitize fermenters, brite tanks, hoses, fittings, pumps, and brewery equipment Prepare tanks, kegs, hoses, and equipment for upcoming production and packaging Connect and disconnect hoses, pumps, fittings, and brewery equipment Assist with kegging, canning, and packaging days Move, stack, sort, and organize empty and finished kegs Clean and organize production and packaging areas Safely handle brewery cleaning and sanitizing chemicals Follow established cleaning, sanitation, safety, and production procedures Help maintain accurate keg counts and an organized production area Assist with other cellar and brewery tasks as production requires A large part of making good beer is cleaning things correctly and consistently. Then cleaning some more things. You Need To Be 21 years of age or older Dependable and able to show up when scheduled Comfortable working independently after training Comfortable working in a production environment Comfortable around wet floors, hoses, tanks, CO₂, chemicals, and brewery equipment Able to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 lbs Able to move and maneuver empty and full kegs Able to stand, bend, lift, climb, push, pull, and work on your feet for extended periods Detail-oriented enough to follow cleaning and sanitation procedures every time Willing to do physical work and get dirty when the job requires it Available for weekday production shifts Available for weekend bartending shifts Interested in beer and willing to learn how it is produced Experience At least one year of experience in a restaurant, bar, brewery, manufacturing, warehouse, production, or similar hands-on environment is preferred. Bartending experience is preferred. Professional brewery experience is a bonus, but it is not required for the right person. Homebrewing experience is also a plus. We will train the right person on our cellar procedures, keg cleaning equipment, sanitation standards, and production processes. Personality Matters We're looking for someone who works hard, gets along with people, and doesn't need someone standing over their shoulder all day. You should be able to work with customers one shift and spend the next shift cleaning kegs without acting like one job is beneath you.
