Job Description
Barge Assistant Northshore Dock & Marine is looking for a reliable, hardworking Barge Assistant to join our team. We operate two fork barges that are used to install, remove, transport, and service boat hoists throughout Northern Michigan. This is a hands-on, outdoor position that offers the opportunity to work on some of the best lakes in Michigan while being part of a fast-paced marine operation. No two days are exactly the same, and the work is both physically active and rewarding. Responsibilities Assist the barge operator with the delivery and installation of boat hoists and docks. Assist with the removal of boat hoists at the end of the boating season. Load, secure, transport, and unload boat hoists and related equipment. Haul boat hoists to and from customers' properties and our storage facilities. Assist with winterizing and moving equipment into winter storage. Help safely position and operate equipment around docks, shorelines, and boats. Assist with basic maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of barges, trucks, trailers, and equipment. Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers while working on job sites. Follow all company safety procedures and instructions. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Be willing to perform other general marine and yard duties as needed. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Reliable and dependable — showing up on time and ready to work is extremely important. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Physically capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering equipment. Able to work safely around water, boats, heavy equipment, and machinery. Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions. A good communicator who works well as part of a team. Comfortable working on and around barges and docks. Willing to learn and take direction. Able to maintain a professional attitude when working around customers. Previous marine, construction, landscaping, dock, boating, or equipment experience is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train the right person. Seasonal Work This position is particularly active during the spring and fall seasons when we are installing and removing boat hoists. During the summer and winter, there may be opportunities to assist with other marine, transportation, maintenance, storage, and yard operations. Why Work With Us? This isn't a typical job where you're sitting at a desk all day. You'll spend your days outside, on the water, and around some of Northern Michigan's most beautiful lakes. You'll learn valuable skills involving boats, docks, hoists, equipment, transportation, and marine operations while working with an experienced team. If you're dependable, willing to work, enjoy being outside, and want a job where you can see the results of your work every day, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today to join the Northshore Dock & Marine team.
