Lead Bartender Betty on Burke Winston-Salem, NC Job Details Full-time $28 - $38 an hour 15 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Wine knowledge Bar experience Attention to detail Mentoring Organizational skills Full Job Description
LEAD BARTENDER
Betty on Burke is a polished-casual restaurant in Winston-Salem's West End, built around great food, thoughtful drinks, genuine hospitality, and a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. We are looking for an experienced Lead Bartender to help lead our bar program and set the tone for an exceptional guest experience. The Lead Bartender is both a hospitality professional and a leader. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys being behind the bar, knows how to run a busy service, and takes pride in developing a strong team. Our ideal candidate is confident without being pretentious, knowledgeable without being showy, and genuinely interested in making people feel welcome.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the bar team during service and set the standard for hospitality, professionalism, and teamwork. Provide warm, attentive, knowledgeable service to every guest. Prepare consistently excellent classic and specialty cocktails according to Betty's standards. Have a strong working knowledge of spirits, cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic offerings. Help train, coach, and mentor bartenders and bar support staff. Assist in developing and maintaining seasonal and signature cocktail offerings. Maintain consistency in recipes, presentation, portioning, and quality. Ensure the bar is clean, organized, properly stocked, and ready for service. Monitor inventory and communicate ordering needs to management. Help control beverage costs, waste, and portioning. Assist with opening and closing procedures. Maintain responsible alcohol-service practices and comply with all applicable regulations. Work closely with servers, hosts, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service. Handle guest questions and concerns with professionalism and good judgment. Help foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative bar culture. Lead by example and be willing to step in wherever the team needs support.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You understand that the bar is an important part of the restaurant—not simply a place where drinks are made. You know how to create a great guest experience while keeping service efficient and professional. You can comfortably recommend a cocktail, explain a spirit, recognize a regular, and handle a busy service without losing your composure. You have a natural leadership presence and understand how to get the best out of a team. Most importantly, you enjoy hospitality. You like people. You care about the details. And you believe that the difference between a good restaurant and a great one often comes down to how a guest feels when they walk out the door.
QUALIFICATIONS
2-3+ years of professional bartending experience. Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of classic cocktails and beverage service. Experience in a polished-casual, upscale-casual, or cocktail-focused restaurant preferred. Excellent communication and hospitality skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm and professional during high-volume service. Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented. Must meet all applicable age and alcohol-service requirements.
WHAT WE OFFER
Betty is a place where quality matters—but hospitality comes first. We offer an opportunity to be part of a restaurant with a strong sense of place, a talented team, and a beverage program with room to grow. If you're looking for a position where your experience, ideas, personality, and leadership actually matter, we'd love to meet you.
