The Opportunity Platz Beer Garden is a one-of-a-kind gathering place in the heart of downtown Keene, NH, built inside a beautifully restored 150-year-old High Victorian Gothic church steps from Central Square. With roughly 20 rotating taps, curated wines, German-inspired fare, live music, and a restored sanctuary that seats up to 150, Platz is something Keene has never seen before. We operate as a cashless and tipless establishment, paying our team fair living wages and creating a transparent, respectful workplace. We believe hospitality done right starts from the inside out. Guests order at the bar, which makes our bartenders the main point of contact for most of the room. You are the person who greets someone on their first visit, helps them find a beer or wine they will love, and makes them want to come back. We Are Not a Cocktail Bar We pour draft beer, packaged beer, wine, and ready-to-drink canned cocktails. There is no made-to-order cocktail program. No shaking, no muddling, no spirits list. What we care about instead is product knowledge and hospitality. Our roughly 20 taps rotate, and the list changes often enough that learning it is an ongoing part of the job rather than something you finish in week one. You do not need to arrive knowing every German style. You do need to want to learn them. Our Lead Bartender runs pre-shift education on what is new, and we will pay for your certifications and support you further if beer or wine is a direction you want to take seriously. Curiosity is the requirement. Depth is something we build. About the Tipless Thing A busy Saturday at a tipped bar can beat a single shift here. What we offer instead is a rate that does not move. It does not drop when the college empties out for the summer, or when the weather turns. That matters more in a part-time role than a full-time one. At a tipped bar, part-time usually means the leftover shifts, and the leftover shifts are the slow ones. Here, every hour pays the same. There is no tip pool, no tip-out, and no competing with your coworkers for the good nights. What You'll Do Serve the bar Pour draft beer, wine, and ready-to-drink cocktails accurately and at a pace that keeps the bar moving. Greet guests, take orders, and run tabs on our POS. Platz is cashless, so there is no drawer and no cash handling. Guide guests toward something they will enjoy, whether they know exactly what they want or have never heard of a single beer on the wall. Answer questions about ingredients, allergens, and ABV accurately, using our documented information rather than guessing. Learn the list Keep up with a rotating tap list and know what is on, what just changed, and what to recommend. Take part in pre-shift education and tastings, and put what you learn to use across the bar. Build working knowledge of our wine and ready-to-drink selections alongside the beer. Keep the bar running Change kegs, stock coolers and packaged product, keep ice and glassware ahead of the rush, and reset the bar for the next shift. Keep the bar, taps, and back bar clean throughout service, not just at close. Follow opening, service, and closing procedures, and flag equipment problems to the Lead Bartender early. Take care of the room Help with the floor and front of house when a floor person is not scheduled, including wiping down tables, keeping the condiment station stocked, and keeping the space clean and welcoming. Answer guest questions about the building, the menu, and what is happening that week. Support live music nights, festivals, and private events. Serve responsibly Check identification, watch for intoxication, and know when to stop serving someone. Follow all company, local, and New Hampshire beverage and safety regulations. Who You Are You are genuinely curious about beer and wine and you want to get better at both. You are warm with people. You can read a room, start a conversation, and make someone feel welcome without being asked to. You stay calm and organized when the bar is three deep and the band is playing. You are reliable. You show up on time and your coworkers can count on you. You are comfortable with technology, including POS and scheduling tools. You can work evenings and weekends, and you are available for the seasonal peaks around Oktoberfest, Mardi Gras, festivals, and live music. You hold TIPS or MTS certification, or you are willing to get it. You must be certified before your first shift. There is no grace period. Platz reimburses the cost on your first paycheck. Previous bartending experience is welcome but not required. If you have worked in a taproom, a bottle shop, a restaurant, a cafe, or anywhere else that runs on hospitality and speed, that experience counts. Toast POS experience is a plus. What the Job Asks of You This is an active role. You will stand and move for your full shift, lift and carry up to 50 pounds routinely, and move and change kegs using proper technique and equipment. You will work in moderate to loud noise. Compensation and Benefits Pay. $22 to $25 per hour depending on experience. Predictable income. We are cashless and tipless. Your hourly rate is your pay, on every shift, in every season. Flexible hours. 15 to 30 hours per week, built to work around school, another job, or family. Certification. MTS or TIPS reimbursed on your first paycheck. Education. Ongoing beer and wine training on the clock, and support toward beverage certifications if you want to build a career in this. Discounts. About Platz Beer Garden 34 Court Street in Keene, NH has stood for more than 150 years. Built in 1869 as a High Victorian Gothic church, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was named one of New Hampshire's "Seven to Save" in 2009. After a careful, years-long restoration, including the reclamation of original pews into bar tops, altar wood into the stage, and historic woodwork repurposed throughout the space, this building is now Platz Beer Garden.
