Job Description
Bar Manager / Assistant Manager The Puddle Dock Restaurant | Portsmouth, NH Full-Time About The Puddle Dock The Puddle Dock is a fine dining restaurant featuring American Colonial-inspired cuisine, scratch cooking, thoughtful beverage offerings, and a strong commitment to hospitality. We are looking for an experienced Bar Manager / Assistant Manager who can lead our bar program while also serving as a key member of the restaurant's front-of-house management team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys bartending, leading a team, interacting with guests, and helping manage the restaurant during service. The Role The Bar Manager / Assistant Manager will oversee the day-to-day operation of the bar while supporting the General Manager with overall restaurant operations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable transitioning between bartending, service bartending, managing the floor, coaching employees, and assisting wherever needed to provide a consistent guest experience. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily bar operations and maintain high standards of beverage quality, organization, cleanliness, and service. Bartend and provide service bartending during scheduled shifts as needed. Assist the General Manager with front-of-house operations and act as a manager on duty. Lead, train, coach, and support bartenders and other front-of-house employees. Maintain proper bar opening, closing, and side-work procedures. Assist with liquor, beer, wine, and bar supply inventory and ordering. Monitor product usage, waste, and beverage cost. Ensure cocktails and beverages are prepared consistently and according to established standards. Maintain proper cash handling and point-of-sale procedures. Support smooth communication between the bar, dining room, and kitchen. Handle guest concerns professionally and help maintain a high level of hospitality throughout the restaurant. Ensure compliance with alcohol service, sanitation, and restaurant policies. Assist with scheduling and other management responsibilities as needed. What We Are Looking For Previous bartending experience required. Previous bar management, lead bartender, assistant manager, or restaurant management experience preferred. Strong knowledge of spirits, classic cocktails, wine, and beer. Comfortable working both behind the bar and on the dining room floor. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to coach employees and hold the team accountable to established standards. Professional appearance and approach to guest service. Ability to remain organized and composed in a busy restaurant environment. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
