Full-Time or Part-Time About Erma's Bistro Erma's Bistro is a 72-seat full-service Caribbean restaurant and bar located in the heart of Downtown Syracuse's historic Armory Square. Building on the success of Erma's Island, our new concept offers elevated Jamaican cuisine, handcrafted cocktails, and warm island hospitality. Our cocktail program is robust and ever-evolving — inspired by Caribbean spirits, local ingredients, and classic techniques — and we're looking for a motivated Barback to help keep our restaurant running smoothly. Position Summary The Barback and busser plays a key support role in maintaining an efficient, organized, and energetic bar environment. You'll work directly with our bartenders and management team to ensure all products, tools, and ingredients are ready for service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced setting, pays attention to detail, and takes pride in helping a team deliver an exceptional guest experience. In addition to maintaining the bar, you will also be aiding servers on the floor. Key Responsibilities Assist bartenders by restocking liquor, beer, wine, mixers, juices, garnishes, ice, and glassware throughout shifts. Maintain cleanliness and organization behind the bar — including bar tops, sinks, coolers, and shelving. Prepare garnishes, syrups, juices, and other cocktail ingredients as directed by the Bar Manager. Replace kegs, CO2 tanks, and assist with inventory rotation and stock management. Remove trash, recyclables, and empty bottles regularly to keep the bar area clean and safe. Ensure all equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored at the end of each shift. Support bartenders during busy service periods by delivering drinks for servers and replenishing supplies quickly. Learn and maintain working knowledge of the rotating cocktail program list including ingredients and preparation basics. Follow all safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service policies. Ensure all empty tables are cleared of dishes, wiped down, and reset after every guest Aiding services with any tasks including but not limited to delivering food and drinks , re-filling waters, clearing dishes, and refilling stations Other duties as assigned by the Bar Manager or General Manager. Qualifications Prior barback, food runner, or restaurant experience preferred but not required. Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent communication and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Interest in cocktails, Caribbean culture, and hospitality a plus!
