GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Greater Scranton YMCA is currently seeking a dedicated food service worker to prepare quality meals per the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The responsibilities include following instructions relating to the timely preparation of breakfast, lunch, and snacks, organizing workstations, and assisting other cooks as needed. Must know safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept to avoid foodborne illness. Work as a team and stay calm in a high-stress, fast-paced work environment. Able to stand for extended periods of time in a kitchen setting.
Food Service Worker Responsibilities:
  • Preparing and assembling ingredients for menu items
  • Preparing quality, nutritious meals according to company standards
  • Storing excess food at the correct temperature in order to avoid spoilage
  • Ensuring that food portions and food presentation meet company standards
  • Ensuring all dishes and cooking utensils are clean before each use
  • Cleaning and sterilizing food preparation areas
  • Assisting other cooks to ensure that food orders are completed on time.
  • Efficiently resolving problems with customers order
  • Ensuring that food health and safety regulations are followed
  • Wash dishes from all classrooms and put them away
  • Daily sweeping, mopping, and taking our trash to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Prep and pull any menu items for the following day
  • Serve meals with all meal components needed to fulfill a reimbursable meal
  • Aware of allergens and accommodates as needed (Lactose-Free, Vegetarian, Fruit, and Peanut Allergies)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Cook Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • ServSafe food handling certification (preferred)
  • Knowledgeable of cooking methods and techniques
  • Proven experience working as a cook
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift, carry, load, and push food boxes and trays (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to stay organized and keep all classrooms separate
