Service Maintenance- 1585 Support Staff Opening on: Aug 5 2026 Closing at: Aug 11 2026 - 23:55 EDT 07 20.08 Residential And Hospitality Services 1149890 Working/Functional Title Sparty's Snackshop/Concession Attendant Position Summary Participate, oversee and assist student staff in the preparation of "short order" style food items in the retail food service venue; assist with ordering, receiving and inventory of food and supply items; participate, assist and direct student staff in proper sanitation of unit; oversee and assist in proper handling and storage of food and supplies to ensure efficiency of operations and reduce waste and spoilage; operate a cash register as needed and maintain controls for transaction during assigned shift; oversee and assist in the cleaning of dishes, utensils and work areas according to prescribed sanitary standards.
Position location:
Sparty's at Hubbard Hall. All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community. Minimum Requirements Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Working knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques is necessary. Two years satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience is necessary. Some willingness to work a flexible shift is necessary. Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations is necessary. Some overseeing and cash handling experience is desirable. Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required. Possession of a valid Michigan operator's license(s) may be necessary. Desired Qualifications Two to three years employment experience in Residential and Hospitality Services; interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff and the public; commitment, desire and passion to 'deliver outstanding Spartan experiences' daily; ability to perform simple tasks following oral and written instruction; familiarity with the proper use and care of food service equipment or the ability to be trained to do so; knowledge of computerized register or ability to be trained to use accurately.
