Job Description
Block '49 Meats is looking for a dependable and versatile Meat Cutter to join our team . This is an all-around position for someone who is willing to help wherever needed throughout the shop. Duties may include custom-exempt meat cutting, preparing products for the retail meat case, cutting meat for sausage production, helping make sausage, wrapping and labeling products, and assisting customers in the retail store. Retail store hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.Saturday:
Retail store hours are 8:00 a.m. to noon.- Flexible hours are available based on the employee's experience and availability. Primary Responsibilities
- Cut and process beef and pork carcasses for custom-exempt customers
- Cut, trim, grind, and prepare meat products for the retail display case
- Prepare steaks, roasts, chops, ground meat, and other retail cuts
- Cut and prepare meat for sausage production
- Assist with making sausage, snack sticks, summer sausage, brats, and other products as needed
- Wrap, weigh, label, and organize custom and retail meat products
- Stock and maintain the retail meat case
- Help customers at the front counter and retail register as needed
- Clean and sanitize knives, equipment, tables, tools, and work areas
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, temperature-control, and product-labeling procedures
- Rotate products and monitor quality and date control
- Lift and move boxes, meat products, and supplies
- Assist with other meat shop duties as needed Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Previous meat-cutting, butcher-shop, grocery meat department, custom-processing, or food-production experience is preferred
- Willing to train the right dependable candidate
- Able to safely use knives, saws, grinders, tenderizers, and other meat-processing equipment
- Comfortable moving between different duties throughout the day
- Strong attention to quality, cleanliness, and detail
- Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to help wherever needed
- Able to stand for extended periods and regularly lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in cool, wet, and fast-paced conditions
- Friendly and professional when assisting customers Compensation
