Job Description

The Dabney, a Michelin-starred and James Beard Award-recognized restaurant in Washington, DC, is seeking a talented and motivated Sous Chef to join our culinary team. Led by Chef Jeremiah Langhorne, The Dabney celebrates the Mid-Atlantic through an ingredient-driven, wood-fired approach rooted in the region's history and traditions. We are looking for a Sous Chef who is passionate about exceptional cooking, thoughtful hospitality, and developing a strong and collaborative kitchen culture. The ideal candidate is an experienced kitchen leader who thrives in a demanding, high-level restaurant environment and is excited to contribute to a team that values technique, seasonality, and continual growth.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting the Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine in daily kitchen operations Leading and developing the culinary team during service Maintaining high standards for execution, consistency, cleanliness, and organization Training and mentoring cooks while fostering a positive kitchen culture Assisting with ordering, inventory, prep organization, and cost control Contributing to menu development and the ongoing evolution of our cuisine Upholding The Dabney's standards for hospitality and professionalism The ideal candidate has: 2+ years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a high-end or Michelin-recognized restaurant Strong leadership and communication skills Excellent organizational and time-management abilities A deep understanding of seasonal ingredients and classical technique A genuine desire to teach, learn, and grow alongside a talented team The ability to remain calm, focused, and constructive in a fast-paced environment If you are interested please email your resume and introduce yourself to tim@thedabney.com.
