Job Description

The White Bull is looking for a driven, experienced Sous Chef to join our team in Decatur. We're a chef-driven, farm-to-table Italian restaurant with a strong focus on handmade pasta, seasonal ingredients, local farmers, and high-quality products. We're looking for someone who brings a "can-do" attitude , takes pride in their work, and wants to be part of a kitchen that is constantly pushing itself to get better. Italian cuisine, pasta, and farm-to-table experience are strongly preferred. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys being in the kitchen, leading by example, developing cooks, maintaining standards, and working closely with the Executive Chef.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Minimum 1 year of Sous Chef experience Strong foundation in professional cooking and kitchen leadership Experience with Italian cuisine and handmade pasta preferred Farm-to-table and seasonal cooking experience Strong communication and organization skills A positive, solutions-oriented "can-do" attitude Someone who leads from the front and isn't afraid to jump on the line when needed Ability to hold yourself and others accountable while maintaining a positive kitchen culture Comfortable working with inventory, ordering, food cost, vendors, and kitchen systems References must be available upon request
THE ROLE
As Sous Chef, you'll work closely with the Executive Chef to keep the kitchen running at a high level every day.
Responsibilities include:
Oversee daily kitchen operations and food production Lead and support the kitchen team during service Maintain consistency, quality, and execution across the menu Assist with menu development and seasonal specials Help manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and vendor relationships Monitor food cost, waste, and portion control Work with Excel, POS systems, and vendor ordering platforms Train, develop, and hold kitchen staff accountable to our standards Coordinate and execute catering and special events Communicate daily priorities and needs with the Executive Chef Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen Help build a strong team culture where people work hard, communicate, and have each other's backs
