The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and a genuine interest in Japanese cuisine—especially sushi making. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Sushi Chef will be responsible for crafting high-quality sushi dishes that meet our restaurant's standards while maintaining excellent food safety and hygiene practices. If you are enthusiastic and willing to learn, we are happy to provide training in sushi preparation and techniques.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare and create a variety of sushi dishes, including nigiri, sashimi, and specialty rolls, using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Ensure all food is prepared according to established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station and prep area, adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines. Collaborate with kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth and timely service during peak hours. Assist with menu planning and contribute creative ideas for new sushi offerings based on seasonal ingredients. Monitor and manage inventory levels of sushi ingredients and communicate restock needs to management. Provide excellent customer service by engaging with guests when appropriate and ensuring satisfaction with their dining experience.
Experience & Requirements:
Previous experience in a culinary role, particularly in sushi preparation or within a restaurant environment, is preferred but not required . Strong knife skills and familiarity with sushi techniques are a plus. Must have a good understanding of basic food handling and hygiene standards. Ability to work efficiently, stay organized, and multitask under pressure. A positive attitude, strong teamwork, and a willingness to learn are essential. Food Handler's Certificate (or ability to obtain one upon hire).
