Sushi Chefs with experience are preferred however we can train passionate cooks to move from kitchen to sushi prep to sushi. Dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm for acquiring the specialized knowledge and skills to master this cuisine is highly recommended for all applicants, as is availability on nights and weekends. Responsibilities Prepare all types of sushi, including maki, nigiri and sashimi Manage food prep activities, like rice and vegetable prep Coordinate with our wait staff to ensure proper cooking, considering special requests and food allergies Prepare appetizers, soups and salads that are close to the philosophy of Japanese cuisine Maintain hygiene principles in all cooking areas and clean your space at the end of the shift Skills Work experience as a Sushi Chef or at an Asian restaurant is preferred but not required Good knowledge of various sushi types and sushi-rolling techniques Ability to work both fast and accurately, especially knife handling skills Availability to work during business hours, including weekends and evenings Flexibility to take on various shifts
