Description

The Pastry Extern supports the resort's Pastry Chef and pastry team while gaining hands-on experience in a professional pastry and baking environment. This educational role provides exposure to the preparation, presentation, and production of high-quality desserts, pastries, breads, and specialty baked goods that reflect the resort's culinary standards.

Working alongside experienced culinary professionals, the Pastry Extern will develop technical pastry skills, learn industry best practices, and contribute to daily kitchen operations. The ideal candidate is passionate about pastry arts, eager to learn, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Essential job

Functions:

Assist with the preparation and production of pastries, cakes, breads, cookies, and specialty desserts.

Support the pastry team in the execution of daily production and service requirements.

Learn and follow established recipes, techniques, and presentation standards.

Assist with measuring, mixing, baking, decorating, and plating pastry items.

Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards throughout the pastry kitchen.

Properly store ingredients and products in accordance with food safety guidelines.

Assist with inventory organization, product rotation, and receiving deliveries as directed.

Observe and learn advanced pastry techniques from culinary leaders and experienced team members.

Follow all resort, department, and food safety policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastry Chef, Sous Chef, or culinary leadership team.

Qualifications

Experience & Education:

Must be enrolled in the Baking or Pastry Arts Program though an accredited college/university

Previous baking, pastry, or food service experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge of basic baking and pastry techniques is a plus.

Hotel, resort, restaurant, or bakery experience is beneficial.

Job Requirements:

Excellent communication skills

Kitchen/prep experience preferred.

Capable of performing repetitious duties.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment to perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

Ability to resolve problems/conflicts and interact well with guests and colleagues

Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, cold, sun & heat);

Must be able to stand & walk throughout the day, including on uneven surfaces for long periods of time

Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull & carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to bend, squat, & twist on an occasional basis

Must be able to perform simple grasping, squeezing, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently;and fine manipulation occasionally.
