Our Behavioral Rehabilitation Services (BRS) program provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for children who have experienced significant adversity and trauma. We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Chef who wants more than a traditional food service position. Job Summary The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for youth and staff in a residential treatment setting. This position oversees menu development, food purchasing, inventory management, food safety compliance, meal preparation, and kitchen organization. The ideal candidate has experience in a commercial kitchen, demonstrates strong food service and organizational skills, and understands the importance of providing healthy, appealing meals that meet nutritional guidelines and dietary needs. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Plan and prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for residents and staff. Develop nutritious, balanced menus that meet the dietary needs of children and adolescents. Prepare meals with an emphasis on quality ingredients, proper nutrition, and appropriate portion sizes. Ensure meals are prepared and available according to established schedules. Create meal plans and preparation instructions for staff to follow during the Chef's absence. Collaborate with residential staff to ensure meals are served according to program expectations. Purchase food and kitchen supplies while maintaining budget guidelines. Track food inventory and maintain adequate stock levels. Maintain a minimum seven-day food supply and rotate inventory using proper food storage procedures. Follow all food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and health department standards. Properly store, label, and date food items. Monitor food quality, freshness, and temperature throughout preparation and service. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized commercial kitchen environment. Conduct supplemental shopping as needed. Report kitchen equipment repairs and maintenance needs to management. Maintain daily production and inventory records. Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special meal requirements when necessary. Qualifications Experience with cooking, baking, food preparation, and meal service. Knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, food production, and food service operations. Understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and inventory control. Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in kitchen and storage areas. Strong time-management, organization, and multitasking skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to work successfully around children and youth in a residential care setting. Must be at least 21 years old. Education and Experience Two to three years of experience in a commercial kitchen, institutional kitchen, school nutrition program, healthcare food service setting, restaurant, or similar food service environment preferred. Culinary education may substitute for experience. Culinary students are encouraged to apply. Certifications Food Handler Card required. First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire. Schedule This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary based on program needs and includes holidays and weekends.
