Job Description

Full-Time Private Family Cook
  • Menlo Park, CA A private family in Menlo Park is looking for a full-time, live-out cook to run the home kitchen and be a flexible part of a busy household.
This is a Monday-Friday role:
lunch for 2-3 people, dinner for 4-6, and school lunches prepared the day before for three children (ages 4-12). The food matters to us. We want fresh, thoughtful, varied everyday cooking to a genuinely high standard, with dependable staples and room to experiment across a wide repertoire, including Asian and European cuisines. At the same time, this is a cook's job, not a chef's pedestal. The right person sees the role broadly: groceries, stocking, kitchen management, occasional pickups and dropoffs, and a hand with other household tasks when the day calls for it. This role suits someone who wants the experience of running a household kitchen end to end and pitches in wherever useful, not someone marking time between restaurant jobs. Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare weekday lunches and dinners
  • Prepare children's school lunches for the following day
  • Manage grocery shopping, pantry and refrigerator stocking, kitchen organization and inventory
  • Use a household credit card for grocery purchases
  • Adapt on the day: an extra guest or two, a portion change, an added dish
  • Keep the kitchen clean, organized and ready for the household
  • Help with local pickups, dropoffs and errands when they fit the cooking schedule
  • Lend a hand with general household tasks as part of the role
  • Optional occasional travel with the family, if mutually convenient What we are looking for
  • Strong everyday cooking across a broad repertoire, including Asian and European food; Indian cooking is a plus
  • Confident vegetarian cooking
  • Careful, dependable handling of a child's food allergies and cross-contact
  • Experience planning meals and running a household or professional kitchen independently
  • Flexible, positive, and happy to help beyond the stove
  • Organized, discreet and easy to have in the home
  • Valid driver's license; a personal car is optional, and a family car can be used when needed
  • Private-household experience is welcome but not required Schedule, compensation and benefits
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday
  • Typical in-home hours: 11:00am-6:00pm, with grocery shopping before or after as needed
  • Live-out, Menlo Park, California
  • $150,000
  • 160,000 annual compensation, depending on experience
  • Paid holidays, paid time off and a health contribution
  • Regular lighter periods when the family travels
  • Preferred start: October or November 2026, with flexibility for the right person Please apply with a resume and a short note describing your experience with family meals, vegetarian cooking, food allergies and the range of cuisines you enjoy cooking.

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
