Job Description

About Hall's on 5th Hall's on 5th is Apopka's first food hall—a community gathering place bringing together independent culinary concepts, drinks, events, and experiences under one roof. Our team works together to create an environment that feels welcoming, energetic, clean, and cared for. Because we operate as a food hall rather than a traditional restaurant, teamwork and flexibility are especially important. Everyone plays a role in taking care of our guests and keeping Hall's running smoothly. Position Overview Hall's on 5th is seeking an experienced, dependable, and passionate Line Cook to join our culinary team. This position is responsible for preparing and executing menu items with consistency, maintaining strong food quality and presentation standards, completing daily prep, and keeping kitchen and service areas clean, stocked, organized, and ready for service. The ideal candidate takes pride in the food they prepare, understands the importance of consistency, works efficiently under pressure, and recognizes that a successful kitchen depends on communication and teamwork. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Execution Prepare and execute menu items according to Hall's recipes, portion specifications, and presentation standards. Maintain consistency in flavor, temperature, portion size, quality, and presentation with every order. Complete assigned daily prep work and ensure ingredients are properly prepared and ready for service. Follow standardized recipes and preparation procedures. Maintain strong knife skills and proper cooking techniques. Understand flavor profiles, seasoning, and proper preparation methods. Monitor cooking times and food temperatures to ensure quality and food safety. Maintain proper portion control and help minimize unnecessary food waste. Properly prepare, label, date, rotate, and store food products. Assist with menu development, specials, and new menu items when requested. Kitchen Operations & Food Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation before, during, and after service. Follow proper food handling, storage, labeling, temperature control, and sanitation procedures. Follow Hall's standards for handwashing, glove use, cross-contamination prevention, and food safety. Properly operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment. Monitor station inventory and maintain appropriate product levels throughout service. Communicate low-stock items, shortages, equipment concerns, or supply needs proactively to management. Assist with receiving deliveries, checking products, stocking, and inventory management when needed. Follow FIFO and other proper inventory rotation practices. Complete opening, closing, cleaning, and kitchen side-work responsibilities. Help maintain kitchen equipment, prep areas, refrigeration, storage areas, and shared culinary spaces. Service & Guest Experience Prepare orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining Hall's quality standards. Monitor tickets and prioritize orders appropriately during service. Communicate anticipated delays, unavailable items, or other service concerns to the appropriate team members. Help ensure food leaves the kitchen looking and tasting the way it should every time. Respond quickly when corrections or remakes are needed. Understand that while much of the Line Cook role happens behind the scenes, the quality and consistency of every plate directly impacts the guest experience. Team & Hall Support Work collaboratively with other cooks, chefs, bartenders, servers, runners, vendors, and management. Communicate clearly during service to keep the kitchen operating efficiently. Help other kitchen stations when needed rather than focusing only on your assigned station. Assist with food running, restocking, cleaning, dishes, trash, spills, and other kitchen responsibilities when the team needs support. Support brunch, events, markets, entertainment nights, private gatherings, and other high-volume periods. Communicate operational issues, product shortages, equipment concerns, food-quality concerns, and other important information to management. Jump in and assist with other reasonable culinary and operational responsibilities when the team needs support. What We're Looking For The ideal
Line Cook:
Has previous line cook or professional kitchen experience. Has a strong culinary foundation and understanding of cooking techniques. Is passionate about food preparation, quality, and presentation. Has strong knife skills and understands proper kitchen procedures. Can follow recipes and execute menu items consistently. Understands seasoning, flavor profiles, portion control, and presentation. Works clean and understands that organization is essential in a professional kitchen. Can manage multiple tickets and priorities during high-volume periods. Takes initiative and notices what needs attention without waiting to be told. Understands that teamwork sometimes means helping outside of your primary station. Communicates respectfully and professionally with coworkers, vendors, chefs, and management. Is dependable, punctual, and ready to work when scheduled. Can receive feedback, make adjustments, and continue improving. Maintains a positive and professional attitude, even during stressful or busy periods. Is committed to minimizing waste and treating ingredients, equipment, and supplies responsibly. Is available for a flexible schedule that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Certifications & Compliance Line Cooks must maintain a current Food Handler Certification and any additional food-safety certifications required by Hall's on 5th or applicable regulations. All Line Cooks are expected to follow Hall's policies regarding food safety, sanitation, proper handwashing, temperature control, food storage, labeling, workplace conduct, kitchen safety, and guest service. Physical Requirements This is an active culinary position. Team members must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently bend, reach, lift, carry, and move throughout the kitchen and food hall. Safely lift and carry approximately 50 pounds when necessary. Work around hot cooking equipment, refrigeration, sharp utensils, and other commercial kitchen equipment. Perform repetitive tasks associated with chopping, preparing, cooking, plating, cleaning, and restaurant operations. Work comfortably in a fast-paced kitchen environment with varying levels of heat, noise, and activity. What Success Looks Like A successful Hall's Line Cook understands that consistency matters every single time a plate leaves the kitchen. It does not matter whether it is the first order of the day or the 100th order during a rush—the guest should receive the same quality food, portion, temperature, and presentation. If another station is backed up, help where you can. If prep is running low, communicate it before it becomes a problem. If something does not meet our standards, do not send it out. If the kitchen gets slammed, stay composed, communicate, and work together. If something needs to be cleaned, stocked, or handled, take initiative. At the same time, you are expected to know your assigned station and responsibilities for each shift and take ownership of them.
Our goal is simple:
every guest should receive food that is fresh, consistent, properly prepared, well presented, and something we are proud to serve. Work Environment Hall's on 5th is a multi-vendor food hall, so service can look different from one shift to another. Team members may work regular food hall service, brunch, markets, private events, entertainment nights, community events, and other special programming. Some periods may be steady, while others can become extremely busy very quickly. We are looking for cooks who can remain composed, communicate, prioritize tickets, maintain quality, and continue executing consistently when the kitchen gets busy. Because Hall's operates as a team environment, employees should also be comfortable adapting to the needs of the business and supporting other areas when reasonably necessary.
