This is not a purely supervisory position. The Lead Line Cook is expected to actively work on the line, assist with food preparation, cook menu items, maintain kitchen organization, and help guide the kitchen team during service. The ideal candidate is a strong cook who can also take responsibility, support management, and help keep the kitchen running efficiently during busy shifts. Responsibilities Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to restaurant recipes, portions, and presentation standards. Work actively on the cooking line during service. Assist with daily food preparation, including cutting, portioning, marinating, assembling, and stocking ingredients. Support the Kitchen Manager with daily kitchen operations. Help supervise and provide direction to line cooks and prep cooks during assigned shifts. Make sure kitchen stations are properly stocked, clean, organized, and ready for service. Help coordinate orders and ticket flow to maintain fast and accurate service. Monitor food quality, freshness, temperatures, portion sizes, and presentation. Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures. Help train new kitchen employees on recipes, cooking procedures, food preparation, and kitchen standards. Monitor prep levels and communicate inventory or product needs to the Kitchen Manager. Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food deliveries. Follow FIFO procedures and ensure food is properly labeled, dated, stored, and rotated. Help control food waste through proper preparation, storage, and portion control. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen throughout the shift. Follow and help enforce food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements. Properly use kitchen equipment and report maintenance or equipment problems to management. Help maintain communication between the kitchen team and restaurant management. Step in to help wherever needed during busy periods, including preparation, cooking, cleaning, stocking, and closing duties. Requirements Previous experience as a Lead Line Cook, Senior Line Cook, Kitchen Supervisor, or similar restaurant position. Strong hands-on cooking and food preparation experience. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-volume kitchen. Ability to work multiple kitchen stations when necessary. Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food handling, and kitchen sanitation. Understanding of food safety, temperature control, storage, labeling, and FIFO procedures. Ability to provide direction and support to other kitchen employees. Strong organization, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to remain calm and productive during busy service periods. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift and carry typical kitchen supplies. Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other shifts based on restaurant needs. Food Handler or Food Manager certification is preferred. Position Summary The Lead Line Cook works closely with the Kitchen Manager and serves as a hands-on leader in the kitchen. The position combines cooking, food preparation, kitchen organization, and team support. The right candidate should be comfortable taking responsibility when needed while still being fully involved in the day-to-day work of preparing food and cooking on the line.
Pay:
