Assistant Cook

We're looking for an Assistant Cook to join our small team and help create our handmade candies. This is a hands-on position working closely with our Head Cook, perfect for someone who enjoys staying busy and takes pride in making high-quality products. Candy types include but are not limited to Blue Mondays, cream candy, caramel, suckers, fondant, fudge, and toffee. Tasks Assist head cook in cooking candies according to Ruth Hunt recipes Maintain a clean work environment, closely following food safety procedures Assist head cook with ensuring freshness and quality of ingredients Ensure candy is cooked at the correct temperature, managing multiple kettles cooking at once Operate a variety of machinery, including but not limited to the candy puller, extruder, chocolate lines, mixers, cream candy cutter, caramel cutter, etc. Assist head cook in pouring kettles of candy onto cooling slabs. Safety & Equipment Operation Requirements Ability to consistently focus attention to multiple machines operating at once Situational awareness/awareness of surroundings Strict adherence to safety procedures Ability to stay alert in a fast-paced production environment Recognize and report equipment malfunctions/safety hazards immediately Excellent hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to multi-task while managing multiple priorities Ability to stand for extended periods of time Ability to lift at least 50 pounds Ability to operate machinery Good communication/customer service skills for interacting with customers during tours, and ability to lead portions of the tour when head cook is absent Basic math skills and organizational skills Preferred Skills Attention to Detail — Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
