This is not an entry-level cooking position. Applicants must already have hands-on experience preparing Jamaican food and be able to cook multiple Jamaican dishes confidently with limited supervision. The selected employee will be expected to maintain Char's standards for flavor, quality, consistency, portioning, and food safety. Employees must also respect the confidentiality of the restaurant's proprietary recipes, preparation methods, and internal kitchen procedures.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook Jamaican meats, meals, sides, and other menu items Demonstrate an existing understanding of Jamaican seasonings, ingredients, and cooking techniques Prepare food consistently according to the restaurant's quality and portion standards Prep ingredients and maintain an organized cooking station Properly cook, store, label, and handle food Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment Clean and sanitize counters, cooking surfaces, floors, and work areas Take out trash and maintain a clean kitchen throughout the shift Restock ingredients and supplies as needed Assist with opening, closing, and other kitchen-support duties

Qualifications:

Previous professional or substantial hands-on experience cooking Jamaican cuisine is required Must be able to prepare several Jamaican dishes independently Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and food-safety practices Dependable, punctual, and consistent attendance Able to work efficiently in a busy restaurant environment Willing to cook, clean, wash dishes, and assist wherever needed Must maintain the confidentiality of proprietary recipes and preparation methods Starting pay is $15 per hour. Employees may be eligible for a performance-based pay review after 30 days based on attendance, reliability, work quality, and demonstrated cooking ability. Shifts are scheduled around the restaurant's operating hours of 11:00 AM-7:00 PM and may include time shortly before opening or after closing for preparation and cleanup.
