Job Description

Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is seeking an experienced Line Cook / Lead Cook for our full-service resort restaurant in northern Minnesota. We're looking for a reliable, experienced line cook who likes to cook—someone who is comfortable working multiple stations, can prep independently, and has the experience and confidence to lead the line and be the cook in charge when needed. This is a hands-on cooking position, not an office or administrative kitchen-management job. You'll spend your shifts prepping, cooking, working the line, and helping the kitchen team put out consistently good food. When you're the senior cook on duty, we'll rely on you to keep prep and service organized, provide direction to other kitchen staff, maintain our standards, and communicate what food and supplies need to be ordered. This is a permanent, year-round position rather than seasonal employment. We're particularly interested in an experienced cook who wants steady work and a place where they can stay and become an important part of our team. We're looking for someone with demonstrated kitchen experience, reliability, cooking ability, and the ability to lead a successful service. What You'll Do Cook on the line during restaurant service, including breakfast and dinner Prepare entrées, nightly specials, bistro items, breakfast items, and other menu offerings Work multiple stations as needed Complete daily prep accurately, efficiently, and on schedule Lead the line and serve as the cook in charge during assigned shifts Organize and prioritize prep and production for upcoming services Provide direction and support to other cooks and kitchen staff when leading a shift Maintain food quality, consistency, presentation, portions, and timing Follow established recipes and standards while contributing ideas and kitchen experience Monitor food and kitchen supplies and communicate inventory and ordering needs Assist with receiving and properly storing food and supplies Help minimize waste and maintain appropriate food rotation Maintain proper food handling, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness Communicate effectively with servers and other front-of-house staff during service Assist with banquets, weddings, catering, and special events as needed Help keep the kitchen organized and running smoothly whether working independently or as part of the team Required Qualifications Professional line-cooking experience in a full-service restaurant or similar kitchen Strong line-cooking skills and the ability to work multiple stations Ability to prep independently and reliably complete prep for service Ability to stay organized and produce consistent food during busy service Experience or demonstrated ability to lead a line and direct other kitchen staff Strong knife skills and knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation Dependability and the ability to work independently without constant supervision Ability to communicate clearly about inventory, prep, food shortages, and ordering needs Willingness to cook and work hands-on throughout the shift Interest in permanent, year-round employment Preferred Experience Leading a line or serving as a lead cook Full-service or high-volume restaurant kitchens Breakfast and dinner service Inventory management and identifying ordering needs Receiving and food-storage procedures Fine dining or upscale casual dining Banquets, catering, weddings, or special events Food-cost and waste awareness The Restaurant Gunflint Lodge operates a full-service resort restaurant serving lodge guests, cabin owners, local residents, and visitors to the Gunflint Trail. Our menus include breakfast, dinner, bistro favorites, rotating nightly specials, and signature Northwoods dishes, along with banquets, weddings, and special events. This position is ideal for an experienced cook who enjoys the actual work of the kitchen and is ready for greater responsibility without leaving the line behind. Why Choose Gunflint Lodge? Combine your love of cooking with a love of the outdoors and you have a pretty unusual place to build a life and career.
