Job Description
Come Join our team! The Elizabeth Brewster House is looking to hire a full time cook. Experience with cooking and management is preferred, and on the job training will occur as well. We are looking for someone with good leadership skills that can help assist in managing the kitchen. The Elizabeth Brewster House is an Adult Care Facility with 36 Residents. The cook would follow the menu to make meals as ordered for Residents. If you are looking for a fulfilling career, we would love to hear from you!
Qualifications:
- At minimum, a High School Education.
- Experience cooking.
- Ability to work with and understand the geriatric resident.
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with the staff and co-workers.
- Ability to meet and deal with various types of workers in multiple settings.
- Ability to work with individual residents or groups in special activity programs.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from residents, resident's families, regulatory agencies and the public.
- Must be able to provide redirection for confused or distressed residents.
- Excellent communication whether in person, fax, telephone or radio.
- Ability to obtain Serv-Safe certification.
Physical Demands:
- Must be in good health
- Must be able to work in temperatures with extreme heat and cold.
- Must be able to lift and move dishes, pots/pans, boxes, garbage and other items as required of job.
- Sit and walk intermittently throughout the day.
- Push, pull, bend, lift, and stretch.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more .
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for coming to work well-groomed in uniform.
- Responsible for putting together sanitizer bucket for cook's sink and washing hands.
- Responsible for reviewing menus and notes left by the dietary director.
- Responsible for making a list of supplies needed for the shift.
- Responsible for pulling all items from storerooms.
- Responsible for cooking breakfast.
- Responsible for making sure the menu is written on the chalkboard.
- Responsible for cooking cream of wheat and oatmeal.
- Responsible for prepping for lunch.
- Responsible for ringing the first bell for breakfast at 8:15 a.m.
- Responsible for doing the morning announcement after the residents arrive to the dining room. Serves breakfast after the morning announcement is over.
- Responsible for preparing lunch.
- Responsible for prepping and labeling leftover buckets for the employee lounge.
- Responsible for plating food. Remember, appearance is important.
- Responsible for ringing lunch bell at 11:45 a.m.
- Responsible for assisting kitchen staff with helping residents to their seats, serving coffee, etc.
- Responsible for going around to each table in the dining room to see if anything is needed; more food, etc… and doing a quick clean up and wipe down.
- Responsible for serving/assisting with serving of desserts.
- Responsible for labeling and dating leftovers and taking them downstairs to the staff break room at 1:00 pm.
- Responsible for bringing up the old food from the staff break room fridge.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen.
- Responsible for assisting dietary director in regulatory regulations with keeping track of multiple sheets required such as census sheets, change of eating habits, staff meals and other documentation regarding behavior changes, food waste log, etc…
- Responsible for wearing a hat or hair net, gloves and apron when preparing food. Insist that anyone in the kitchen does so too.
- Responsible for maintaining kitchen appliances and storage areas in clean, orderly condition at all times.
- Responsible for utilizing appropriate sanitary methods and chemicals.
- Responsible for communicating with the dietary director, regarding inventory of food and supplies as well as any existing problems or suggestions.
- Responsible in assisting the Dietary Director with birthday meals and singing Happy Birthday to residents.
- Responsible to go over a thorough report at change of shift.
- Responsible to prep for supper.
- Responsible for cooking dinner.
- Responsible for setting up soup cart.
- Responsible for assisting the aide in the dining room with any special requests needed.
- Responsible for putting away all food with a label and date.
- Responsible for assisting the server in putting away clean dishes when needed.
- Responsible for maintaining kitchen appliances and storage areas in clean, orderly condition at all times.
- Responsible for utilizing appropriate sanitary methods and chemicals.
- Responsible for room trays and bagged lunches as needed.
- Responsible for following through with special/medical dietary needs of residents.
- Responsible for communicating with the dietary director, regarding inventory of food and supplies as well as any existing problems or suggestions.
- Responsible for supervising Servers when Dietary Director is unavailable.
- Responsible for making sure the servers are completing their job duties and that they are all complete before they punch out.
- Responsible to attend monthly in-service training programs and staff meetings.
