Job Description
Our Estacada Schools Nutrition Services team is hiring Substitute Cooks at all buildings! We are seeking highly motivated, customer service oriented people to help with coverage in the school kitchens. Come join a collaborative, student facing team! Hours per day can vary depending on needed coverage needs. Applicants must have availability between 6:30am and 2:30pm.
This position is flexible and on-call. Choose when you're available to work based on your schedule. This position includes paid training upon hire. Benefits are not available for this position.
As a Substitute Cook, you will help prepare and serve meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes, while following food safety and sanitation practices. Responsibilities include serving food, assisting with the cleaning of the kitchen, equipment, and cooking utensils, operating the point of sale, and providing excellent customer service. You will work collaboratively with Nutrition Services staff, building staff, and students.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
One year experience with cooking in a commercial, institutional, school, or quantity food preparation setting.
Knowledge of methods for preparing, cooking, baking and serving foods in large quantities.
Ability to read, follow written and verbal instructions, and perform essential math functions. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to use computer programs to process meals and to communicate via email.
Possess the ability to reliably report to assigned district kitchen locations. Possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Oregon Food Handler's card.
Possess excellent customer service skills.
Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with supervisor, staff members and the general public.
Ability to follow direction, work independently and as part of a team, and adapt to different assignments and kitchen locations. Ability to meet physical requirements of the position. Physical screening required at District expense upon offer of employment.
Must pass Fingerprint based criminal background check, at employee expense upon offer of employment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
SUBSTITUTE, ON-CALL
Work days per week will vary depending upon the needs of the district. Salary and placement will be in accordance with the FY25.26 substitute pay rate of $18.32/hour. (The FY26.27 salary schedule is currently under negotiation; the pay rate will be updated once the salary schedule is ratified.)
