Job Description

Prepares, seasons, cooks, and serves food for hospital patients, employees, and visitors. Cleans work areas, cooking utensils, and washes dishes. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital's customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES 1.
The Cook assists in the implementation of quality food service as it applies to patients, staff, physicians, and community through meal preparation. 2. The Cook demonstrates working knowledge of food sanitation and infection control. 3. The Cook maintains a safe and sanitary work environment. 4. The Cook is responsible for sanitation and safety measures for the pot and pan areas. 5. The Cook follows all departmental policies and procedures as outlined for dish machine usage. 6. The Cook demonstrates commitment to standards of job performance. 7. The Cook demonstrates commitment to standards as set by Federal, State, and Local Agencies. 8. The Cook demonstrates knowledge through compliance with all hospital and departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum formal education through the Junior High Level. Ability to speak, read, and write English. Food Handlers Certificate required within 60 days of hire date and must be kept current every two years.
Skills:
Other Experience in a healthcare food service setting preferred.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged standing/walking. Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 30 lbs.) Heavy cleaning, mopping, sweeping, and bending. Pushing loaded tray delivery carts.
Working Conditions:
Will work in kitchen, cafeteria, patient care hallways, trash disposal area. Subject to burns and cuts. Exposed to hazards of steam and heat. Exposed to heat, wetness, and odors in kitchen and patient areas. Exposed to varying degrees of kitchen elements. Potential exposure to body fluids. Uses a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment including grinders, slicers, and mixers.
