Cook Helper / Kitchen Assistant

Summary:

Support kitchen operations by assisting cooks and chefs with food prep, basic cooking tasks, cleaning, and stocking to ensure timely, safe, and consistent meal production.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare ingredients: wash, peel, chop vegetables; trim meats; measure and portion ingredients.

Assist with basic cooking tasks:

assemble simple dishes, heat, sauté, grill, fry, and finish plates per directions. Follow recipes and plating instructions to maintain quality and consistency.

Maintain kitchen cleanliness:

wash dishes, pots/pans, utensils; clean workstations, equipment, and floors. Receive, unpack, label, and store deliveries; rotate inventory using FIFO. Monitor ingredient and supply levels; notify supervisor when reordering is needed. Follow food safety and sanitation standards (proper storage temperatures, cross-contamination prevention, personal hygiene). Help with dishwashing and bussing during service as needed. Assist in setup and breakdown for service (mise en place, stocking line, closing duties). Adhere to kitchen safety rules and report equipment issues or hazards.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:

Ability to stand for long periods, lift/move up to 25-50 lbs regularly. Fast-paced, hot, noisy environment with shifting schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
