Job Description

Job Summary:
The Chef / Dishwasher supports daily meal service at Turnagain Social Club by assisting with food preparation, cooking, dishwashing and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment. This role works collaboratively with other Chef to provide nutritious, high-quality meals for participants in an adult day care setting.. Compliance with Alaska food safety regulations is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients Prepare and cook meals and snacks in accordance with menu plans and dietary guidelines Ensure all food handling, preparation, and storage meet State of Alaska Food Code requirements Maintain proper food temperatures, labeling, dating, and storage practices Support meal service to ensure timely and efficient delivery Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment in compliance with sanitation standards Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, dishwashing, and storage areas Follow all infection control, sanitation, and hygiene protocols Assist with receiving and properly storing food and supplies Monitor food quality and report any concerns Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and care team to meet participant dietary needs, including modified textures and restrictions Dispose of waste according to health and safety standards Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Previous cooking or kitchen experience required Valid Alaska Food Worker Card required ServSafe Food Handler or Food Protection Manager certification preferred Must pass a background check Must obtain a recent TB test Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and infection control practices Experience in healthcare, senior care, or adult day services is a plus
Skills and Abilities:
Strong teamwork and communication skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Attention to detail, especially regarding food safety and dietary needs Compassion and patience when working with vulnerable populations Reliable, punctual, and adaptable
Work Environment:
Kitchen within a licensed adult day care center Must comply with Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) food safety standards Requires standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks (lifting, bending, reaching) Exposure to heat, kitchen equipment, and cleaning chemicals
Pay:
$18.00 - $30.00 per hour Application Question(s): Clean background check
